This Old Man of the Woods looked different. The cap was
a lighter color and shaggy rather than having spiky scales. Mushroom
Expert describes the the Strobilomyces confusus as "rather unkempt". This
one looked like that. The cap
measured 3.75". It looked taller than normal.

The underside looked lighter than normal, in a specimen this
large.
Section. Turns reddish brown but not
the tubes.
Spore print was dark brown. Spore measured 9.6 x 7.7
microns. No visible reticulation.
